Kotimainen doom-projekti Kalmo on julkaissut ensimmäisen singlen ja lyriikkavideon ”Marjaana” tulevalta levyltään ”Gehinnom”, joka ilmestyy Sliptrick Records -merkin kautta 13.4.2021.
”Marjaana”-kappaleesta kerrotaan seuraavaa:
Marjaana is a Finnish version of an old traditional song, based on the 17th century ballad “Sweet William’s Ghost”, and now twisted, Kalmo-style. While the original structure of the music has been somewhat preserved, the lyrics and the tone of the song have been kalmonised. The yen to make his own version of this song had been whispering in the back of his mind for some time. The track is taken from Kalmo’s soon-to-be-released second album “Gehinnom”. The music video takes the form of an animation, with lyrics both in Finnish and English and the grim artwork telling the tragic story.

Kalmo is a one-man metal band from Finland led by inimitable main-man Mika. His music is raw and dark doom metal spiced with a fistful of black metal. The lyrics are written in Finnish and tell tales and visions about the inevitable end of this all. Kalmo feasts on influences from true old school metal masters like Celtic Frost, Slayer, Death Breath, Black Sabbath, and Master. To add some more to the list, which could almost be endless, at least the names of Triptykon, King Diamond, Gallhammer, Hellhammer, Vorum and Immortal must be spoken aloud.
Kalmo kommentoi:
A small hut at the edge of the looming forest. A pale light gleams from the window. The blackening sky summons the creatures of the night from the deep. The darkest of the darkest shadow moves across the land, looking for the soul bound by an oath given a long ago. Heavy steps bring the creature to the doorstep. The moment of payback is at hand. Wishes are granted and promises kept – at a high price. Marjaana finds her doom in the promise given. Death will collect his debt.
Kalmo on yhden miehen doom metal -projekti. Aikaisemmin Kalmo on julkaissut muutamia single-julkaisuja. Debyytti-EP ”Demoni” on saatavilla digitaalisena ja CD-versiona. Tämän lisäksi on saatavilla ”Demoni” t-paita kalmojen peitoksi. Julkaisu on tilattavissa Bandcamp-sivulla (https://doom.kalmo.fi).
