Uriah Heepissa 1970-luvun menestysvuosina sekä Ozzy Osbournen kahdella ensimmäisellä albumilla 1980-luvun alussa soittanut rumpali Lee Kerslake on kuollut syöpään 73-vuotiaana. Miehen kuolemasta kertoi tämän entinen bänditoveri, kosketinsoittaja Ken Hensley.
Pitkään vakavasti sairastanut Kerslake sairasti eturauhassyöpää, joka levisi luusyöväksi. Mies kärsi lisäksi psoriaasista, psoriaattisesta niveltulehduksesta sekä sydämen sivuäänistä. Lääkärit antoivat miehelle vuoden 2018 lopussa kahdeksan kuukautta elinaikaa.
Kerslake soitti Uriah Heepissa kahteen otteeseen vuosina 1971-1979 sekä uudelleen 1982-2007. Hän vetäytyi bändistä vuonna 2007 terveysongelmien vuoksi, mutta nousi lavalle Heepin sekä omien projektiensa kanssa satunnaisesti myös sen jälkeen. Rumpali työsti viimeisinä vuosina omaa dokumenttielokuvaa urastaan työnimellä ”Not On The Heep” sekä ensimmäistä soololevyään ”Eleventeen”.
Hensley kertoo Kerslaken menehtymisestä seuraavaa:
It’s with the heaviest of hearts that I share with you that Lee Kerslake, my friend of 55 years and the best drummer I ever played with, lost his battle with cancer at 03:30 this morning. He died peacefully, praise The Lord, but he will be terribly missed.
I know many of you were praying for him not to suffer and I thank you for that and, now that Lee is at peace, our thoughts and prayers should turn to his wife Sue who will need all the support she can get at this time.

Kerslake kertoi The Metal Voicen haastattelussa loppuvuonna 2018 terveydentilastaan seuraavaa:
It’s prostate cancer but it’s moved to rest of my body I now have bone cancer which is nasty one, so the Doctor gave me about eight months to live. But I’ve been fighting all the way. Five years ago they gave me four years to live and so that gives you an idea. Not only have I got bone cancer I’ve got psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and two heart murmurs. As I said to you I’m fighting it and there’s no telling what can happen and they might have a new drug come out and I’ll experiment with it if it keeps me alive. I survived this long and all this time I have had this terminal cancer but I have defied it because the music kept me fighting.
