Jyväskyläläinen The Nik Hall Project julkaisi ensimmäisen viiden kappaleen EP:nsä, joka kantaa nimeä Chronicles. Pitkillä kaiuilla, kerrostetuilla kitaroilla, ja huomiota herättävillä sovituksilla kappaleissa kuullaan vahvoja Devin Townsend, Steven Wilson ja Mikael Åkerfeldtin vaikutteita.
“I really don’t know how I would describe my style or genre, but to anyone who asks, I find myself giving “atmospheric progressive metal” as an answer. We use a combination of drop C tuned guitars with standard tuning to create a thick, heavy wall of sound filling a lot of the frequency spectrum often left empty”, englantilaistaustainen Nik Hall kommentoi.
Levy kaappaa kuuntelijan alusta loppuun progressiivisella ja melankolisella tarinalla.
“It’s a drive through the world we live in as I see it, visiting many emotions, various mental states and physical adaptations made by many in this world to cope. Whether they be personal, environmental or humanitarian with the final song Chronicles bringing a full circle to the journey by referencing the very first vocal line heard at the beginning of the album“, Hall lisää.
EP:n nimikkobiisistä Chroniclesista julkaistiin samaan aikaan virallinen musiikkivideo joka on kuvattu kappaletta äänittäessä. Video dokumentoi bändin äänitysprosessin Tonehaven studiolla.
“Chronicles is a song about loss. Losing a loved one and having to get through the emotional and physical stress to find the brighter side of life once again. It is a reminder that no one should ever need to face grief or mental instability alone.”
