The Helsinki-Hämeenlinna-based doom rock band Planeetta 9 opens the game with their new single ”Elämä on heikkoja varten” from their upcoming album. The song, laden with loud and powerful guitar riffs, punches in the face of the doubters and shows that the band is in the grip of its life.
The single ”Elämä on heikkoja varten” criticizes rock clichés and attitudes harmful to life. According to the band, ”the lyrics wrote themselves as if we ended up remembering comrades who fell too young in the shadows of endlessly long evenings.” Musically, the focal point of the band is still strongly in the Sabbathian guitar sounds of Birmingham’s rainy landscapes and the Finnish melancholic moods of Kaurismäki.
Black Sabbath-influenced melodic heaviness and the late Finnish superstar Rauli Badding Somerjoki’s melancholy are the band’s hard core, but all the distortion walls include the influences of the legends Type O Negative, Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden, without forgetting Faith No More’s courage to go beyond musical boundaries.
Planeetta 9, who joined the team of the Helsinki-based indie label Rolling Records last year, represents a newer generation of Finnish rock and metal, although in this case the band members aren’t young boys anymore. The band released their first single in 2017, which was a song called ”Luinen sylí”, which gained a lot of attention. This was followed by the ”Koivut” EP released in the same year, as well as several single releases in the following years. The band’s latest release is the 2021 EP called ”Pirun piiska”.
The band is currently working on their first full-length album, which will be released in collaboration with Rolling Records at the end of 2023.
