| Yhtyeen genre? | Obviously, we play “metal”, but more precisely, I think we can consider our music as “prog”. The thing is we all learned music with classical metal influences and background (Metallica, Fear Factory, Primus, Gojira, etc.) ; but besides, we’ve been very influenced by our musical studies at the M.A.I, where we learned a lot of different music styles, especially jazz, and I think it had a huge impact on our playing and compositions (our song “Spannungsbogen”, for example). |
| Ketä yhtyeeseen kuuluu? | One singer : Adrien / one bassist : Antoine / one drummer : Jackou / and one guitarist : Yann, myself. |
| Mistä yhtyeenne on kotoisin? | Nancy, in Lorraine, east of France, even if we’re almost all from a different place of France : I’m from Burgundy whilst Jackou is from Alsace, and Adrien and Antoine are from Upper Savoy. |
| Yhtyeenne esikuvat? | We have many different influences, but mainly, let’s say Gojira, Periphery, Cult of Luna, etc. But our first album has really been influenced by the albums : Ocean Machine (Devin Townsend), City (Strapping Young Lad), Endtroducing (DJ Shadow), the original soundtrack of Blade Runner (Vangelis), and Melana Chasmata (Triptykon) (the black square surrounding the cover of our album is a small tribute to this album by the way !). |
| Kertokaa yhtyeenne taustatarina? | We first met in 2017, when we were students at the Music Academy International of Nancy. We instantly became close friends, and Antoine and I soon started to play and compose together. At that time Jackou was still playing and touring with Dust In Mind (another French band), so he joined us afterwards, 2 or 3 years later. Regarding Adrien, he is Antoine’s cousin, he joined us a bit after, ending a long struggle to find the perfect voice for Hypnagone. He did some tests in 2020, and to us it perfectly fitted with our music, so it was obvious it had to be him. We still wonder why we did not ask him sooner ! |
| Minkälaiset tavoitteet yhtyeellänne on? | Not sure if we have particular “goals”. Actually, we just want to do what we must, can and want to do with music. If we can express what we need to through recording songs and performing shows, then, I think it is our particular “goal”. In sort : make records and tour, as much as possible ! |
| Minkälainen työnjako musiikin tekemisessä on? | It’s flexible, but each person has its own ‘’specialties’’. Antoine is the main composer, so the composition work is mostly done by him, while Jackou is filming and editing all our videos. Adrien is skilled in organizational/administrative stuff (ahah), while I’m the one working the least for now [laughs]. We just do what we are skilled for. |
| Millainen kokemus bändinne on livenä ja miksi yhtyeenne keikoille kannattaa tulla? | The shows will start after the release of our album, so the answer to that question is still to come. |
| Uusimman levynne nimi: | 
“Qu’il passe”, but do not ask me why, it is still enigmatic even for us to know why it was the perfect title for the album ; it was just obvious to us that we had to choose this name. But at the same time, I think it represents the fact that creating this album was very laborious and, sometimes, painful, because we had to face a lot of bad events during the process of composing and recording the album (for example, the album had to be recorded two different times, due to some technical problems), and in a way, we really do want to finish this period of our lives. So, we’re very proud and happy to release this album, despite any of its problems, and really relieved too and already looking for the next album, so : qu’il passe ! (By the way, this is a French saying that means that things must pass and that we have to accept it and move on). |
| Avatkaa uuden levynne taustoja. Mikä on toiminut levyn inspiraationa? | That’s a good question, even for me… Actually, I think we are more dependent on our intentions than our inspirations, so to speak, and so I would ask myself “What came out of you through this album ?”. I think the album deals with the feeling of loneliness, sadness, anger, even “madness” in a certain way. This album is the result of what we lived and felt those last years, and the lyrics speaks of it too, I guess. In other words : “How is it today ? Not so good”. I think this album is the “not so good” part. |
| Minkä bändin kanssa lähtisitte kaikkein mieluiten kiertämään maailmaa? | We’re shooting for the stars here, but it would be tremendous to tour with Gojira, Cult of Luna, Klone, Hangman’s chair, Devin Townsend or Periphery, let’s dream a bit, why not ? [Laughs] |
| Jos uudelta levyltä/vanhasta tuotannosta pitäisi suositella kahta biisiä, niin mitkä ne olisivat ja miksi? | For a recent album, I would recommend “Déconnecté” from the album “Deux frères” of PNL, just because the song is incredibly “atmospheric”, heart-wrenching, and there’s a bunch of good ideas when it comes to singing and mixing : the production of the song is just astonishing ! For an older production, let’s say “Je suis un soir d’été” of Jacques Brel, still so beautiful and melancholic : this song is a perfect definition of the word “memory”. Believe me, there’s no need to be French to understand the intent of the lyrics or to like these songs. But if you only want to talk about metal, then let’s say “Loner” from the last Hangman’s Chair’s album, incredible production and profound music ; while I would recommend “Sad but true” for a production of any period of time, just because Metallica is still the best metal band ever for me, and I still don’t know something heavier than the riff and the singing parts of this song. Let me just mentioned the last Cradle of Filth album, “Existence is futile”, which is for me a perfect mix between modern and old metal production : there’s songs for every metal listener in this album ! |
| Mikä musiikki kolahtaa yhtyeellenne juuri nyt? | Even if we have all the same basic influences, we all listen to particular stuff : in my case it is mainly PNL, but I could add Dead Can Dance and Gunship (and always the same albums of Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth and Children of Bodom over and over), whilst I know Antoine is particularly listening to David Bowie and Post Malone at the moment, which Adrien loves too. Jackou listens to a lot of lofi, in addition to Periphery. |
| Muita asioita, joita haluatte kertoa yhtyeestänne: | Not really, except that we are really happy and proud to release and share our first album. We know we have so much to learn and so many things to improve in our music in the future, but making music is something we couldn’t stop, so we’re already working towards the next album, and thus every person, every listener that could like our music is already highly thanked by us. We are very pleased to share our music and can’t wait to have the first impressions and opinions on it, whether they’re good or harsh. |
