Mistä yhtyeenne on kotoisin? | Braunschweig/Germany |
Yhtyeenne esikuvat? | I could name a hundreds of bands, but there is no certain band which style we wanted to copy. Musically we are influenced a lot by the 70s and 80s Hardrock and Metal Bands combined with a lot of thrash metal and a little bit of prog sometimes. |
Kertokaa yhtyeenne taustatarina? | In the summer of 1993 our former bass player Steffen Keuchel and me wanted to start a band and needed a drummer and a vocalist. We asked Till to join us and he stayed for a while to jam with us. He already played in two bands but had no time for a third one. Then Moritz Hoffmeister took over and stayed for seven years and two CDs, before Till came finally back. Our first singer Andi Bruer also had a studio where we recorded our first album in 1994/1995 without ever playing a gig. The first gig was in the summer of 1995 at a garden party, since then we knew we could hit real stages which we did with quite some success. The second album came out as self produced at first, then in 1999 it was re-released by Gutter Records/Massacre and in 2000 again by Pavement in the US. We had a song on the Metal Hammer sampler that some metalheads in Switzerland heard. They invented us to play, it started a long lasting friendship and we still return about every two years to Luzern or Sursee till this day on. We did a couple of more CDs with a couple of labels, Daniela joined us in 2008, we got a second guitar player and had several changes on the bass guitar before Max joined in 2011. Now he plays guitar and Ben finally came in 2019 to the band as a new bass player. During the Corona pandemic we recorded our newest album like the ones before, “As above, so below” (2008) and “Synchronicity” (2011), in Langelsheim with our longtime producer and good friend Jost Schlüter. |
Minkälaiset tavoitteet yhtyeellänne on? | Playing a lot of club live gigs and hopefully at some bigger festivals. Next year at our 30th anniversary, maybe we have a special release and some special shows, who knows… |
Minkälainen työnjako musiikin tekemisessä on? | I write most of the music and most of the lyrics at home and present it to the band in the rehearsal room. I write the song with guitar pro and then make digital demos, so you can have a pretty good impression of the song although it sounds quite terrible. Then the others add their ideas, maybe a better drum beat or a better bass or vocal line. In the studioit all comes together during recording. For this album I also did the layout of the CD and Vinyl. All the other members are included in organising live gigs or the Facebook / Instagram and other social media stuff. Ben was very much involved in making the new lyric video to Eyes of the guardians and Michael, our live sound guy did the new homepage. |
Millainen kokemus bändinne on livenä ja miksi yhtyeenne keikoille kannattaa tulla? | Now we will of course focus on the new CD/LP, but we also have a big reportoire of our older stuff, so we don`t have to play the same songs over and over again and can deliver a big variety of the former material. Sometimes we also play cover shows under the anagram Hotshead. |
Uusimman levynne nimi: | Eyes of the Guardians
|
Avatkaa uuden levynne taustoja. Mikä on toiminut levyn inspiraationa? | I`m always looking for great riffs and try to combine a few to a good song. Vocal lines and lyrics come later. For the opening riff of “Eyes of the guardians” I was inspired by listening to “Mastodon/Emperor of sand” whereas the opening part from “Ground zero” was inspired by “Red sector A” from Rush. The rehersal title was even called “Red sector B” 🙂 “Invisible”, the epic album closer was of course inspired by some prog bands like “The tea party” and “Tool”. Lyricwise most songs are dealing with some kind of apocalyptic themes, like the danger of digital surveillance in an Orwellian way, and the need for mankind to change their ways before it is too late. “Ground zero” tells the story of the first nuclear test and “Veins of the earth” is about the Deep Water Horizon catastrophe. “The impenetrable maze” is about losing your way through life and “Scars of damnation” is about fighting your way back into life again. |
Minkä bändin kanssa lähtisitte kaikkein mieluiten kiertämään maailmaa? | A tour with Exodus, Testament or any of those thrash heroes would be great |
Jos uudelta levyltä/vanhasta tuotannosta pitäisi suositella kahta biisiä, niin mitkä ne olisivat ja miksi? | From the new songs maybe “Eyes of the guardians” and “Ground zero”, because these two give a good impression and overview of what the new material is all about. From the older productions “In my mind” from Emotional overload (1998) is still a live classic. It`s quite a simple song with a strong oriental melodic line and we still love to play it. “We disintegrate” from our album “As above, so below” is another staple in our live set. A long Voivod like intro turns after some breaks into a pure thrash inferno. |
Mikä musiikki kolahtaa yhtyeellenne juuri nyt? | Ben really likes the new Clutch album and everyone in the band likes the latest Exodus album. Right now I`m listening to some old Zappa records which I got by chance, weird stuff but I like it 🙂 |
Muita asioita, joita haluatte kertoa yhtyeestänne: | We have so much fun together in the rehersal room or when we meet private, so I hope that this line-up holds for a long long time. It`s such a great combination of musicanship and friendship right now. |
Minkälaiset terveiset haluatte lähettää lukijoille? | Of course we would appreciate it when you lend our music an ear. All in all keep the metal spirit alive and support the underground. Peace! |
